"Our County contracted services with DECADE software over six years ago. We were changing over to ENVISION from our own in-house PARADOX based program which had been designed in the late 1980’s and cobbled on with fixes and upgrades. There were constant issues and problems with the system, as it had grown over the years to the point that it was trying to perform functions that were well beyond its capabilities. Our goal was to partner with a firm that understood our industry and could apply their deep experience to our agency’s needs. Just as important, or perhaps more so, we wanted a partner with integrity in whom we could trust.
Our transition to ENVISION initially was not going well, primarily due to some individuals working on the projects that were part of the County’s team. A lack of understanding of both the old and the new system, plus “analysis by paralysis” attitude was slowing the conversion process to a crawl and putting it well behind schedule. It was so bad that I ended up jokingly referring to the project as the “Sisyphus Project”, since I was beginning to feel like that same character from Greek mythology.
I had a conversation with Kevin Delaney, the President of DECADE, and expressed my frustrations. He provided some excellent suggestions and offered up additional support from his company to get the project back on track. It was at that time it became evident to us that our decision to partner with Decade was the right one.
Our go-live process went very smoothly with DECADE staff being available to address any problems that popped up. The previous problems with our old system-data corruption, crashing, inability to post inspection dates on our website – all those problems and others went away. ENVISION has been a very stable platform, and has worked very well for our Department.
Since the completion of that project, I have spoken to Kevin many times. He has always been very accessible and responsive to any problems or concerns which may have occurred, providing a prompt resolution. He really is very concerned and sincere about providing a good product to his clients and making his clients happy. He and his staff, specifically Darryl Booth, have been a pleasure to work with.
This is why our Department is currently in the process of switching over to ENVISIONCONNECT and its ENVISIONCONNECT REMOTE Component. Prior to this decision, I had spoken to Kevin about some features of this product that could be improved, based on conversations I have had with other jurisdictions. He and Darryl responded by holding a special meeting at the annual CCDEH Conference to openly gather information from current users, and to improve their product.
Again I believe this demonstrates Kevin’s commitment to provide the best product to meet the ever changing needs of Environmental Health jurisdictions. No product is perfect, but to me it is how the company – and employees of that company – treat you and respond to issues when they arise that makes or breaks a product or service. Honesty is #1 in my book. And I truly feel that Kevin and Decade have always been honest with me; that they are sincere in trying to resolve any problems; and I feel I can indeed (and do!) trust Decade. And I appreciate that!
We are a large County, with over 180 employees; over 10,000 food facilities, over 7,400 pools and spa facilities; over 6,000 hazardous materials/waste facilities; and all the other traditional environmental health programs including CUPA, LOP, vector control, mobile home parks and more!
